a fred perry “surplus shop” opened in williamsburg in may. “surplus shop,” i unfortunately found out, does not mean “outlet,” and $125 shirts still cost like $90. too rich for me.
i wanted a new shirt because i was going to DC the weekend of june 10 and i’ve really worn that one tartan plaid to death. oh well.
before i left on friday, cengiz (my little 21-year-old cypriot coworker) and i grabbed lunch at a cevap cart. doesn’t look too special, this cevap stuff (like dinky little breakfast sausages) but it’s delicious. a couple weeks later i saw an episode of “diners drive-ins and dives” where guy fieri also gives cevap his full endorsement.
so anyway, DC. 12 weeks ago i went to DC! i got there in time for 30 seconds of jazz in the garden, and 30 seconds was about enough since everyone was already blitzed. i think that was the last time i saw sohil—everyone is leaving DC.
it was pride and there was a huge party at the newseum on friday night. it was a pretty amazing venue. molly and i did a simulated broadcast of some white house news story. i was damn good—maybe that was a missed calling of mine? oh wait—screw you, slight lisp, you ruined everything.
the parade was.. a parade. vaughn bought a 30-pack for us to drink on the street—that was nice of her. and she subsequently got a little drunk! the post-parade continuation of the pre-parade party at adam et al.’s got pretty unruly—i was ready to get out of there and hit up dc9. what a great place dc9 was even before the roof deck. where’s the new york equivalent?
sunday was josh’s birthday. he and the rest of the crew since i left have taken a liking to this bar called darnell’s. i don’t quite know why.. it was fun for one trip. at one point “defying gravity” came on (oh maybe that’s why they like it?) and nathan hoisted me up in the air to do my best idina menzel. it was a bit of an awkward falsetto mess, but that’s ok because the only people at darnell’s are your friends.
amtrak to new york that night—thank you 3,000 rewards points. sort of sad to leave—it’s nice to be in a city where you can check in on foursquare and have ten buddies right there with you. but new york is home now and home is dandy too.
