tdk:
Let’s. Go. A’s.
this is a pretty banging retro a’s logo. i especially like the dandy cleats.
growing up i was never inherently drawn to sports. i’ve been surrounded by them so consistently for so long now, though, that i’ve developed an appreciation and enjoyment of watching them at a professional level, baseball being no exception. in rank order, i have some level of attachment to the:
- a’s: i grew up around oakland. and my older (middle) brother has always been a major fan.
- white sox: in the summer of 2004 my brother and i went to 2 home games 2 nights in a row (versus the a’s) and had a really enjoyable time mingling with the life-long sox fans. good people. plus their tv announcers (hawk and dj) are absolutely ridiculous. and i have a mild obsession with jim thome.
- tigers: my mom is from detroit and i’d estimate that in aggregate i’ve spent at least a full year in the area.
- phillies: the national league doesn’t much do it for me, but i lived in philly for 2 years and it’s pretty hard not to get caught up in philly sports living in the city. on several occasions i have seriously contemplated purchasing an old big jim phillies jersey.
- cubs: i avoided the hype during my 4 years in evanston, but living with danny for two years caused me to develop some slight feeling for the cubs (thank god we didn’t get WGN in philly or i’d probably be worn out). going to wrigley and wrigleyville is an undeniably fun experience, also. and with a beer like old style representing the team, how can i say no?
also, for being a relatively mild baseball fan, i have amassed a fairly large list of stadiums where i’ve seen games in person: a’s, giant (old and new), tigers (old and new), mariners (old and new), blue jays, white sox, cubs, phillies, yankess (old), nationals (old and new), and orioles. 15 total. not bad / somewhat surprising, right?
let’s go a’s.
