what a stormy friday night it is in new york. i’d be ok sitting in my apartment tonight, vodka soda in hand listening to the rain hit my window unit. but i’m at jfk waiting for the skies to close so i can get on my way to california. bad luck lately.
gate 12 in terminal 7 is an unusual and nice hideout. quite isolate—no one here aside from us united 346 awaiters. it’s sort of just a big square room plopped down in the space between the airport road, the terminal entrance, and the tarmac—prime views in all four directions, particularly when it was still light out and these damn storms rolled in.
mike was in town last weekend. you’ll have to wait, oh, months to hear about most of it. he showed me this great music aggregating website, we are hunted. it’s so fantastically easy—you just hit play and it cycles through all this hip trending music. no more aimlessly digging around the internet to try to keep up with the kids’ taste du jour. it’s been around since 2009, the site—i would’ve had so much more indie street cred had i known sooner!
i really like this song that’s currently #2 on the site—gotye’s “somebody that i used to know.” it’s a chart topper in australia. my preference the past few years has been for solo female vocalists, but this guy’s voice is just so pleasing. and he’s got a great singing face in this video too—his huge expressive mouth in the chorus is entrancing.
ok time to take off the headphones, listen to the PA system’s soft jazz, and watch football (football?). like, you know, a non-emo traveler.
