extra pickles

other vices: busch light, dance floors

monday, april 25 was my last tip to allentown!  how exciting.

there could’ve been much worse travel situations—a 2-hour chauffeured trip is a hell of a lot better than, say, flying across the country.  and allentown wasn’t that bad of a place: at our last dinner, the restaurant was playing little boots and there was a ferrari in the parking lot—moments of hipness.

but it was indeed nice to be done with it—for all of may and june i wasn’t staffed on anything major.  and (aside from the “bad for business” implication, which i guess i should care about) it was really nice to be based in new york again—the city was starting to get gorgeous!

on a bit of a whim i decided to go to DC that weekend, friday april 29.  i hadn’t been since new year’s—four months is too long.  i can’t recommend the DC2NY bus enough—a few more bucks but a lot less hassle and a million more open seats compared to bolt or mega bus.

super tacos and bakery was a nice welcome—a quick horchata and some small talk with the regular manager (it’s nice when people remember you, isn’t it?).  and amsterdam falafel for dinner meant i’d covered both my admo hot spots—their garlic mayo did wonders for my evening.

we took the bus from the st. clair to town, on which i snapped a repeat shot of two of my favorites.  (meanwhile another faction tried to jam 6 people into a cab and got pulled over.)  binaca sang rebecca black’s “friday” (remember that song, readers of my 2-month behind-the-times blog?) and before i knew it i had abandoned adam et al. (oops) to grab a solo bite at annie’s.

red rocks for saturday brunch.  all of a6 there but lindsey, aww.  a lot of the crew went to see kylie that night—months prior when they had been buying tickets i didn’t want to commit the money nor to the date (oops again).  instead mike and i watched fast and furious and took naps, and everyone regrouped to go to shift that night (foursquare tells me i was there with 11 of my friends—i don’t think i even know 11 people in new york!).

adam had a ton of people over on sunday to surprise nathan for his birthday.  that was pretty nice.  then i got on a bus back to new york—never nice.

when i got off the bus in new york after my last trip in january, i was one neuron’s firing away from having a breakdown in the middle of times square—new york did not feel welcoming in that moment’s here and now.

this time.. well, i was pretty happy to be back—back home.
