a week after david was here, part of the college crew rolled through new york. that’s fun always. having people stay on my couch week after week after week can get a bit taxing, so it was nice that brad arjun and JP all stayed at this corporate apartment in little italy that we had for an out-of-town manager who peaced out early.
of course it wasn’t only them in town. leslie (from home) was here on thursday. and john and keith (from DC) were here on sunday. new york really has some draw, eh?
on thursday we saw aziz ansari roaming the streets by my apartment. arjun put a blurb on facebook about it and one of his friends wrote a funny response.
went to some places i’d never been on friday—luzzo’s (it’s now official that i just don’t like neapolitan floppy pizza), white slab palace (fun, hip), spring lounge (where one sign read “fuck the meatpacking district”).
saturday was a fantastic day—a bit nippy but gorgeous out. we braved the madison square park shake shack line (i’d never been to that original location). delicious as usual (though if i had to choose.. i’d pick five guys). then we hung out in central park for a long time. there’s a hilly lawn just north of the east side of sheep meadow where everyone who owns a dog hangs out, and this one little thing really, really liked chasing around the frisbee. hours of running—no idea where its energy came from. played a lot of caps at my place that night, then went to fat cat and got busy with some shuffle board.
(and a special, special thanks to arjun for a few of these pics. now shut your hole.)
completely out of the blue john was in town on sunday. and keith too. so we went to pieces and grabbed a beer (HA no one drinks beer at pieces) drink (and i found out last night that drinks have gone up in price to $5! the nerve.)
new york is fantastic. i really do like it here. and it’s great having friends visit. i wish, though, that i had more of a clique here—like i had at home and in college and in philly and in DC. i’ve got some solid people i can go to here—the high school crew, adam and soni until they move in july [oh noes], work peeps, a couple other guys i text. it’s just not cohesive—lots of smaller groups to call on. and i’m much more used to having one giant gaggle where everyone knows everyone and at least someone is always up to fun stuff. i’m not completely sure it will change, either. we’ll see. just gotta get more comfortable with this peripheral social situation for now.
