oh hay, neglected thang.
april and may have been quite packed socially. after another exhausting week in allentown, david came to visit the weekend of april 1. i’m sure i’m forgotten 50% of the details, but i do know it was a good visit!
grimaldi’s is impossible to beat, so we went there, and then to the always hit-or-miss DUMBO party at galapagos. this one was a hit enough, i’d say. tyler showed up. so did some singer named sky ferreira—david knew her. her stuff is sort of catchy. the performance wasn’t good though—what’s up with all these single female acts underwhelming me lately?
saturday was fantastic—decently gorgeous day, and in david i’ve found a fellow “let’s explore the city on foot” enthusiast. murray’s bagels is right up the street from me but i had never been—great selection, but they don’t toast! that, to me, is ridiculous. on the way to MoMA we stopped at the new york public library and st. patrick’s, neither of which i had been inside of and both of which were impressive. we also went to the austrian cultural forum—cool building that reminds me of an easter island totem.
this was my second trip to MoMA and marked the first time in ages i paid full-price to go to a museum (DC spoils a boy, as do free nights in new york when not accommodating visitors’ limited time). a lot of the same things as last time caught my eye again—mondrian, van gogh, ruscha, calder. two pieces previously unseen by me i also liked—felix gonzalez-torres’s “supreme majority” (because it reminded me of my office christmas party’s tree building fun) and joan miro’s “the birth of the world” (just because).
strolled through central park after, entered and lost “the book of mormon” lottery, entered and lost the “american idiot” lottery (a nice old man offered us one of his tickets, though), and wolfed down some dos toros. and when night fell, david got his obligatory introduction to pieces before a trek out to sugarland. we got mcdonald’s to close the night and i swear we were there 20 minutes waiting for my food. the cashier liked to talk though, so it wasn’t horrible. and as a consolation she gave me lots of extra sauce (the key to my heart).
david acquired a debilitating leg injury somewhere on saturday night, so sunday we relaxed until he peaced out. then i met tyler for champagne, which had become a nice little sunday routine. for one reason or another, though, i don’t think we’ve done it since—that’s almost two months. we’ll have to get that going again.
monday was balls at work. but tim had gotten back from his six-week trip earlier that day, so i said what up to him at nowhere, and that made the day better a bit.
tuesday it was back to allentown, which surprisingly looked quite pretty then. for a few minutes, at least.
