“i sort of want to write about november and i sort of want to go to bed. january is off to a pretty fun start but yeesh work can be a pretty life-consuming!”
i think i started this draft 4 weeks ago.
so november.. well, work was pretty life-consuming in november too! my first foursquare check-in of the month was at 11:15pm in a cab: “And so begins 3 weeks of this late cab ride home garbage.” ha. a good project to have under my belt at least.
my parents were in boston visiting my brother, so i went up there the first weekend in november. the jetblue terminal at JFK is quite nice. and jetblue and airtran (remember those trips to canton?) are great for having xm radio—that “bpm” station makes time fly (get it? ..i’ll here all week with the funnies).
so boston. i like going up there. it’s so nice to just hang out in an apartment with some space and be a little removed from the the mental/physical/professional/social hustle down here.
and obviously seeing pat and laura and my parents is good. always a good grounding experience to remember that things are going to be ok, heh.
we went to the JFK library on saturday (is his name not on anything?). i wanted to go to the gardner museum or even the MFA again, and i gave a huge eye roll when i found out i was in the minority and we were going to this institutional building, followed by an even bigger eye roll when we decided on account of timing we’d have to eat there in its sodexo cafeteria. but then we sat down in front of this window with a stunningly vibrant view—greenest grass and bluest water. who would’ve thought. and the library (museum, really) is fine. cleaner and presented better than expected.
got back to new york on sunday in time for bowling. rolled a 172. (that’s a good score for me.)
the next week? who knows. work probably. brad stayed over on friday night—wish i could even remember why he was in town? we met nitesh out and he made us take a 1980s limo cab to the LES. it was silly. brett was at boiler room. he brad and i are some of the better photo hunt players i’ve come across, but we stunk it up.
the tree outside my window looked really pretty late that month.
saw a blurb about MGMT playing a concert at the guggenheim and in the pictures i was quite intrigued by a giant horse dangling from the ceiling. so i went to check it out next saturday evening (pay what you want nights) without realizing that this maurizio cattelan exhibit was a big deal—huge line! stumbled upon my buddy robin in line and saved myself some waiting—it’s still always funny to me running into people in such a big city. anyway, the pieces themselves i thought were sort of meh, but the installation was pretty rad—everything just hanging from the ceiling! watch it all go up.
went to DC for thanksgiving. a lovely trip, as i partially discussed already. DC really is home away from home away from home. it’s the only place i’ve lived post-college with a really high concentration of good friends. that’s in no way meant to discount individual friends in other places—the energy of having a group is something that i do miss though.
you know that foursquare badge people get for checking into the same place 100 times? and how most people get it for checking into their house or office or something boring? I got it at the end of november for checking into mamoun’s..
..routines. if only i could get into one with posting things on here.
