other vices: busch light, dance floors

one of my first and favorite memories of michael jackson was his halftime performance at the 1993 super bowl.  i was 9 years old and distinctly remember thinking it was so cool that the entire crowd had signs that they held up to form giant cartoon-ish images of kids while MJ sang “heal the world.”

this is a video of the entire performance.  you should watch it in its entirety (it’s friday, you aren’t working anyway).  in case you can’t, here’s how it goes:

  • it starts off with a ton of cheering and MJ body doubles on top of jumbotrons and MJ being ejected into the air from below stage.
  • 2m 24s: jam
  • 3m 02s: billie jean
  • 4m 10s: black or white
  • 7m 32s: the crowd starts to hold up their signs making the giant drawings of kids (it’s pretty sweet, really).
  • 9m 06s: heal the world
