extra pickles

other vices: busch light, dance floors

a continuation of summer..

sunday, july 17: the L took a lot of time off this summer, that bastard.  i walked across the williamsburg bridge for this first time (it was a nice hot day, and/or i was desperate for a $2 bud light at metropolitan)—it’s long!  and pink.  and has a nice view.  it kills me that a few weeks ago i messed up my knee and haven’t been able to walk around as much lately.  it’s bad enough that i started going to physical therapy this, which i know is sort of a joke, but the copay is reasonable and candice/candy/collette/who knows was super nice.  so maybe it’ll work and i’ll get in one more bridge walk before the city freezes over.

tuesday, july 19: there’s an abundance of $15 barbershops in this city.  none are horrible, none are great—on the mark surely doesn’t deserve 4 1/2 stars on yelp, but it’s decent (or it was until my third trip there..).  and it gets points for sweet lighting and eastern european club jams.  neighborhood barbers is next on the list.

wednesday, july 20: all the young people at work met up in newport for a meeting/conference/training of sorts.  that was pretty fun, everyone from the four offices all in one place.  we went sailing on thursday on old america’s cup winning boats—i guess that’s sort of cool, right?  i was on the two-time winning intrepid so of course we won our own little race—we laid a great line and saved a tack (that’s WASP for our captain knew what was up).

friday, july 22: made my way to boston from newport to visit pat and laura.  it was their one-year anniversary that weekend (so obviously they wanted to spend the weekend with their little bro!).  the heat was oppressive and we did a lot of hanging out in their apartment.  when i’m at home alone in new york i’m not comfortable sitting around not doing anything—it makes me feel like i’m at risk of missing out on something (“what if i don’t go out and all these great guys do go out and i miss out on a chance to meet new people?”  or similar not-so-rational thoughts).  so, it’s sort of nice to be away from home and/or with friend and not to be concerned about “missing out” and to be more at peace with just sitting around.  just relax already, right?

tuesday, july 26: started a new project in.. canton, ohio!  i hadn’t been traveling since the allentown days earlier in the year.  canton was probably no worse, though the commute wasn’t as relaxing.  was there for four weeks—relatively short overall, though the weeks themselves were long and filled with stressful night.  the project was interesting enough, the team was pretty great, and i generally like my job.. though it’s hard sometimes not to get nostalgic over my cushier work history.

hasta next time.
