not a ton of super exciting stuff happened over the next month, late june to late july we’ll call it. so why don’t i just post a picture or two for some discrete events:
friday, june 24: tyler was over when the new york state senate decided dudes should be able to marry other dudes. we walked over to stonewall, found a mass of people dancing in the streets, said “cool” and made a beeline for pieces.
sunday, june 26: it was pride and doug was in town again. the T intersection of christopher and gay streets (yes, gay street) we found to be a pretty prime parade viewing location—not a ton of people, tall things to stand on, and close proximity to pieces. the best part was watching a friendship form—there were a bunch of (presumably straight) guys watching from their fire escapes, some on one level and some one level down, and by the end they bonded (presumably over their love of women) and all joined up to watch on one level. pride: bringing bros together.
thursday, june 30: we had a work event in bryant park and it was super nice! (and when it was done i got to go back to the office and work until 2am..) the park is very well-lit at night—the greenest of green grass against the dark night is extremely aesthetically pleasing.
saturday, july 2 through monday, july 4: long weekend. the city felt noticeably emptier—it was eerie. guess summer had started and people were getting away. strolled through central park on saturday, had a double-feature routine sunday with tyler (i.e., went to eastern bloc for $2 champagne and to the metropolitan bbq after), and hung out with the high school crew on monday the 4th. i tried to get close to the hudson to watch the fireworks but got too late of a start and it was pretty horribly crowded, oops.
thursday, july 7: colin had tickets to see “unnatural acts” and he took me along. i had never seen a non-musical play and i quite enjoyed it. it was about an actual gay witch-hunt at harvard in the ’20s. a dude took his pants off. all of his pants.
sunday, july 10: on my way to shake shack in madison square park i stumbled upon the filming of “men in black 3.” i knew it was being shot here thanks to the bad press will smith was getting for parking his giant trailer in soho—rich people hating other rich people is the funniest! i still get a bit excited when i see things being shot in new york, and i assume i’ll always feel that way. sort of like how it’ll always be cool in DC to see a big motorcade or to hear marine one’s rumble.
saturday, july 16: this would be the last time i would see adam and soni in new york! so this was an unfortunately big event, contrary to me having started this post saying “nothing happened this month.” they’ve since moved to california and got married (what a fun wedding it was!). the three of us and tali went to tartine for dinner (where john and i had gone several months ago) and then wilfie & nell, where the lone armchair in the corner was still there (though we think it used to be a leather chair and has been replaced with a blue fabric one?). a few magners on ice later and everyone thought it’d be fitting to have a final drink at pieces. i’m not really sure how that was fitting, but we did it (it was karaoke night and that barfly brett was of course there). and then they were off! ..
well i ran out of spots to add more pictures.. so i guess we’ll only get to mid-july with this post. rereading all of this now, i guess after all that some super-exciting things did happen over those mid-summer weeks.
