extra pickles

other vices: busch light, dance floors

a bunch of new york’s museums run up the east side of central park, from the 80s to 100s i think.  there’s a 3-hour block each year where all those museums open up for free (versus, you know, the 363 days a year when DC museums are free..).  it’s called the museum mile festival and i went on tuesday, june 14 to see a jewelry exhibit at the cooper-hewitt.  pretty cool to see, maybe worth the full-price $20 ticket, definitely not worth it to stand in an on-and-off rainy line for over an hour to see if for free.

i hung out with an old college buddy a bit that week.  jesse—one of those guys you meet first quarter of freshman year when don’t yet understand how to kindle a friendship, ha.  we went to bar called von on wednesday night.  this past year has indeed been one of getting too caught up in places like eastern bloc and sugarland and forgetting that there are other places to hang in the city.  this place was a nice change.  (then again, i reconnected with jesse thanks to a chance encounter at boiler room, so maybe my romanticism with those bars isn’t completely futile.)

he and i also explored the new section of the high line that saturday.  it’s much narrower and the changes between its subsections are much more drastic than the first section.  i like it.  at the end there was also a temporary inflatable city underneath.  zany.

and if this rain lets up he and i are hanging out tonight.  so that’s cool.

ran into lauren e from home at happy hour that friday.  that was funny.  add it to the list.

sunday, june 19 was quite nice.  after entering and losing the book of mormon ticket lottery (spoiler alert: i finally won tickets last weekend!!), stephen (who now lives here!) and his fold-up bike met me in brooklyn for some mccarren park gawking followed by what would be my first of many sunday bbqs at metropolitan.  doug from DC was in town and he came with his bestie (from new york) mark and his roommate jen.

fette sau for dinner.  which meant waiting in line 45 minutes, but that was fine thanks to beers and a kid playing with a dog.

it was just a super fun afternoon and evening.  and i know posterity will be interested.

i thought i was done with these months-behind weekly recap posts.  not quite, it seems.
